DOLE receives nominations for new JobStart areas in 2024

February 19, 2024

In a proactive move to extend the reach and impact of the JobStart Philippines program, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) recently called for nominations of new implementing areas from DOLE Regional Offices. The aim is to broaden the scope of the program's implementation in 2024, and as of 16 February 2024, a total of 16 new areas have been nominated.

This strategic initiative underscores DOLE's commitment to addressing youth unemployment and enhancing employability across various regions in the Philippines. By identifying and including new implementing areas, the program seeks to provide young individuals with valuable opportunities for skill development and sustainable employment.

Among the notable areas nominated by the Regional Offices are from DOLE CALABARZON, the Municipality of Taytay, with a rating of 98.57%, DOLE Region 1’s Calasiao, Pangasinan with a rating of 93%, and DOLE Region 11’s Province of Davao Oriental with a rating of 92.86%. These areas represent diverse regions of the country, reflecting the program's intent to have a widespread impact and cater to the unique employment needs of different communities.

As the new areas are being considered as new additions to the 52 implementing areas of the program, JobStart Philippines aims to create a positive impact by empowering the Filipino youth, especially those not in employment, education, or training (youth NEET), through comprehensive life skills and technical training, internship opportunities, and eventual integration into the workforce. By expanding the program's footprint, DOLE is taking significant strides toward building a more resilient and skilled workforce, ultimately contributing to the nation's economic development.

The nomination of new areas for the 2024 implementation of JobStart Philippines reflects DOLE's dedication to addressing the evolving employment landscape and ensuring that the benefits of the program are accessible to a wider demographic of young individuals. This expansion is not just about creating jobs but about fostering sustainable employment and empowering the youth to thrive in the dynamic Philippine workforce.
